In 1946, after numerous requests from Montezuma citizens, Melvin Arendt bid farewell to his brother, Louis, at Gibson Savings Bank and moved his family to Montezuma to start Peoples Savings Bank. Melvin was joined in the bank by his two sons Richard and Jim and son-in-law Bill Bolen. Jim later retired in July of 2001.
