Mr. Scroggin was a local land owner and had a successful farming business which had grown to such an extent that he decided to open a private bank.
The Bank of Chestnut was formed as a private bank in 1902 by Michael Leimbach. In 1919, the Bank of Chestnut was issued a charter by the State of Illinois.
