In 1892 Frank W. Striemer and his family emigrated from Germany to the United States. They settled in Fairmont, Minnesota. On September 5, 1911, at the age of twenty-two, Frank Striemer founded the Farmers and Merchants State Bank of Alpha. The Bank has survived and thrived throughout the years. Today the Bank is still owned and managed by the founder’s family. It is one of the few independent banks in the state that has been continuously owned and operated by the founder’s family. The daughter of the founder Helen Striemer Meium was president of the bank from 1992 until her death in 2014. Harlow K. Meium who was president for 25 years also served as Senior Vice President and the Chairman of the Board until his death in 2010. Two of their four children are the third generation of the founder’s family to take part in the management of the Bank. Paul H. Meium is President and Cashier and has been with the Bank since 1982. Evangelane J. Meium-Bratrud is Vice President and has been with the Bank since 1990.
