The Bank of Camilla was established more than 125 years ago as the first bank in Mitchell County. The bank was chartered on November 4, 1889, and began business on January 2, 1890, in the first brick building in Camilla, known for many years as "Bennett Hall." The founding fathers and first directors of the bank were T. R. Bennett.

The founding fathers and first directors of the bank were T. R. Bennett, Sr.; M. F. Brimberry; D. K. Butler; J. B. Acree; J. C. Turner and W. N. Spence with T. R. Bennett, Sr., as its first President. Other presidents have been Capt. J. P. Heath; T. R. Bennett, Jr. (later became first Superintendent of Banking in Georgia); W. L. Butler; J. L. Palmer; Joe Wheeler Butler; J. B. Lewis; J. E. Brooks, Sr.; W. W. Brooks; Raymond T. Muggridge, Jr.; Ray T. Muggridge, III; and David E. Wright (present).

Current directors are Ray T. Muggridge, III, Chairman of the Board; E. Butler McDonald; Donald E. Shirah; Janet Butler Stallings; Melanie M. Kemp; David E. Wright; Lanair Worsham; and Robert Lee Bostick.

Current officers are Ray T. Muggridge, III, Chairman of the Board; David E. Wright, Chief Executive Officer and President; Warren H. Marchant, Vice President and Senior Credit Officer; Michael McGahee, Vice President and Loan Officer; James I McKenzie, III, Vice President and Loan Officer; Josh McGalliard, Assistant Vice President and Loan Officer; Martha Jane Bullard, Chief Financial Officer and Bank Secretary; Teresa Edwards, Computer Information Officer; Kristy Suber, Compliance Officer and BSA Officer; and Macie Rackley, Information Security Officer.

Deposits in 1916 were approximately $150, 000.00 and in 1934, they were $202, 840.00. By 1950, they had passed the million dollar mark. In March, 1953, the bank came under the FDIC protection. At the time of our move to our present location, assets totaled $7.3 million. The Statement of Condition for June 2021 reported assets of $132.2 million.
