Cincinnati Ohio Police Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit, full-service financial institution serving Police Officers, Firefighters, Public School and Government employees. COPFCU was started on June 27, 1935 during the Great Depression to serve Cincinnati Police Officers and their families. At that time, law enforcement officers were required to purchase their own firearms. With starting salaries of only $125/month, a $25 firearm was a significant expense. As a result, a group of dedicated volunteers pooled resources together and started the Cincinnati Ohio Police Federal Credit Union. Guided by Irv Specht, the credit union's first loans were made with funds that were kept in an old cigar box.
