The credit union opened for business on January 4, 1954, in a small corner room furnished by the railroad, adjacent to the passenger station. The name of the credit union began as Florence ACL Employees Credit Union, changed to Florence SCL Employees Credit Union, then to Florence Seaboard Credit Union, and finally to Seaboard Trust Federal Credit Union. These name changes reflect the many changes that the railroads have seen over the years. Through the years, Seaboard Trust Federal Credit Union has relied on the support of railroad employees and their families to become the strong financial institution that it is today. Seaboard Trust is fortunate to have added several other employer groups, growing the current membership to over 7, 000.
On January 1, 2004 Seaboard Trust changed their name to Palmetto First Federal Credit Union to reflect their change in charter. We were approved for a community charter, which allows all persons who live, work, worship, attend school, or business and other legal entities located in Florence County to join Palmetto First. To obtain membership to Palmetto First Federal Credit Union you must live, work, worship, or attend school in Florence County.
