Natural Resources Conservation Service Federal Credit Union (NRCS FCU) was chartered in 1937, just one year after the Soil Conservation Service (SCS) established its presence in Fort Worth, TX. Originally, the credit union membership was only open to the employees of SCS who worked in Fort Worth. Subsequent field of membership expansions to include SCS employees working at SCS sites within about a 30 mile radius of Fort Worth, and eventually, to all SCS employees who worked in the state of Texas, family members of members, and retirees of SCS. In 1995, the name of the credit union was changed to Natural Resources Conservation Service Federal Credit Union (NRCS) to reflect the name change of their legacy agency.
In 2006, a change to the charter granted membership eligibility to serve government employees (federal, state, county, and city level), independent conTractors, and their families, who work in fields related to nature, land, soil & water conservation, fish & fisheries, game & wildlife, parks & recreation, environmental quality, erosion, geological surveys, and weather; who work or live in the states of Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin.
