The Citizens State Bank & Trust Company has been providing customers with a range of financial services for over 90 years. The Citizens State Bank & Trust Company was organized and chartered in January 1921 with W. L. Johnson (bank president), JA Gillett (vice president). In 1923 Woodbine State Bank, originally opened in 1897 and incorporated in 1901, merged with Citizens State Bank & Trust Company. Citizens State Bank and Trust company’s ownership continued to be held by the Johnson family for decades
In 1975 Mr. and Mrs. Roy Johnson, sold their interest in the bank to Kenneth E. Stout, who owned the bank until the Moyer family purchased it in 2008. Under the leadership of Kenneth Stout, the Citizens State Bank and Trust Company grew. In 1993 The State Bank of Bremen, originally chartered in 1907, was acquired. This acquisition marked the first branch of Citizens State Bank and Trust Company in Bremen, Kansas.
Under the ownership of the Moyer family, from 2008-2015, further growth was spurred. In 2011 The Tightwad Bank, formerly Reading State Bank chartered in 1900, was acquired in Reading, Kansas. In 2012 The Gypsum branch of Central National Bank, formerly Gypsum Valley National Bank originally chartered in 1910, was acquired in Gypsum, Kansas.
In 2015 the Moyer Family sold their interest in the bank to Randy and Lisa Shannon, of Missouri. The Shannons also own banks in Missouri, all of which are “small enough to know you, large enough to serve you”, much like the family of Citizens State Bank and Trust Company’s hometown banks that go the extra mile.
