On June 14th, 1910 The First National Bank of Monterey received its charter from the Comptroller of the Currency to establish a national bank in the town of Monterey. The bank opened on August 1st of 1910 with 57 original shareholders and $25, 000 in capital. The first board of directors rotated presidents naming PH Wagoner.

LaPorte Community Federal Credit Union has been serving in the community since 1937 when it began as The Allis Chalmers Credit Union. Membership was composed solely of Allis Chalmers workers and their families. Credit union business was conducted in a small office located inside the Allis Chalmers plant.

Hometown FCU was started in August of 1936 by 33 Square D Company Employees contributing a total of $25. We moved from the Square D property in January 1989 and began serving Miami County in 1991. Our name changed from Square D Federal Credit Union to Hometown Federal Credit Union to better reflect our membership base.

In 1931, a group of seventy-five farmers in Wabash County, Indiana joined together to form their own financial cooperative.
