In 1966, Ada Federal Employees Credit Union (AFECU) was established for Federal employees and their relatives in Pontotoc and Coal Counties. Savings and loans were all that were available through the credit union for many years.

AFECU purchased the building it currently operates from in January 2011.

On February 15, 1951, a special group of people, inspired by Ralph Burnett, met in a room at Oklahoma Baptist University to establish a credit union. Those original incorporators were Charles V. Manes, Edward Hurt, Jr, Leroy Bond, C.V. Milliken, Clifford J. Smith and Ralph Burnett. On April 9, 1951, Bison Federal Credit Union opened its doors.

American National Bank opened for business in May 1983. The original location was at 10 West Main in what is now known as the Colston building. In January 1984 the home office moved to its present location at 1901 North Commerce. In June 2016, ANB changed the bank charter from a National charter to a State charter.
