The Credit Union was established in 1949 by fifty Washington County educators. For many years, volunteers operated the Credit Union from their homes. In 1979, the Credit Union opened its first dedicated office space in a trailer on the bus lot of the Board of Education. The Williamsport branch opened in April 2005.
The Rome Kraft Employees Credit Union was chartered March 19, 1955. The sponsors of the credit union at that time were known as Rome Kraft Company and North Georgia Timberlands Company. Although the sponsor named has changed the Credit Union Charter has remained the same. Presently the sponsors are International Paper and Georgia Pacific.
